Come And Explore The Currituck Lighthouse
Each lighthouse stands with its own beauty. The Currituck Lighthouse, also referred to as the Corolla Lighthouse, is a masterpiece in its own way. Construction of the 162 foot tower was completed in 1875 with its red brick color that gives distinguishing recognition by day. By night, all who see her flash the signal of 3 seconds on and 17 seconds off know the Currituck Beach Lighthouse is standing guard to warn the passing vessels of the shallow waters.

The lighthouse keeper has long been replaced by an automated system. The original Fresnel lens is still flashing it's signal to this day but the five wick oil lamp has since been replaced by a 1,000 watt bulb which can be seen flashing it's signal for 19 nautical miles. I have climbed the 214 steps of this magnificent tower. When arriving at the top, I was rewarded with an awesome view of the surrounding beach and sound side of Corolla. You won't want to miss a chance to experience the 19th century architecture and history of this original lighthouse. You'll find the lighthouse open from March till about Thanksgiving weekend. Be sure to explore this great historic lighthouse.
