Hang Gliding

Hang Gliding can be a lot of fun and what better time to learn than while you are on vacation at the Outer Banks.

Jockey's Ridge State Park is the place where many have come to learn how to fly for the first time.

The park is home to the highest sand dunes on the east coast and provide a great place to learn the basics of flying.

A local flying school provides professional instructors that will make you feel safe and confident while completing the class.

If you really want to get the feeling of soaring like an eagle you can sign up for the tandem lessons.

With the tandem lessons you will be towed up with an ultralight airplane to an altitude of 2000 - 5200 feet. This is a great experience for many wanting to explore this exciting sport.

Some Questions Asked

  • How long is a basic lesson? (3 hours)
  • How much does a lesson cost? ($99)
  • Do I need any previous experience? (no)
  • Can kids take flying lessons? (yes, but there is a 85 lb. min.)

Even if you don't go any further than a few lessons while on vacation, you will never forget the experience you had soaring like an eagle over the Outer Banks.

Another related sport to check out is paragliding, which people can confuse with hang gliding

Go ahead and explore what it is like to soar like an eagle. Hope you have fun flying!
