Jockeys Ridge State Park

A day of exploring Jockeys Ridge State Park is a great place for family fun.

North Carolina State Parks are open for the public to use for family activities giving the opportunity to enjoy nature and the outdoors.

Jockeys Ridge is located in Nags Head. It stands as the tallest sand dune on the Atlantic Coast, with 420 acres of sand piled approx. 100 feet high, giving you a great view of both the ocean and sound side of Nags Head.

From the top of the sand dune, I have seen the most beautiful sunsets overlooking the Roanoke Sound. I think the best sunsets are during September and October.

Things To Do In The Park

Hang Gliding lessons are available.

Sand Boarding is allowed on the sand dunes from October through March.

Kite Flying is a lot of fun from the top of one of the dunes. With the constant breeze blowing on the dunes you can have a kite in the air very fast. Stunt kites are a favorite for many kite flyers.

The sound side has shallow waters making it a favorite place for kayaking, windsurfing and swimming.
