Outer Banks Fishing
Why It's So Popular

Outer Banks fishing is probably one of the most popular things to do while vacationing at the Outer Banks.

I started coming here to fish when I was a teenager and ever since that first trip, Cape Hatteras fishing trips have become one of my favorites.

Have a fish story to tell?

If you would like to do some fishing on your next beach vacation, may I suggest giving surf fishing a try. Outer Banks surf fishing is one of the easiest ways to be introduced to fishing here at the Outer Banks.

With many miles of beach available, I have never had a problem of finding a spot to cast my line into the surf and pull in one of the many species of fish.

Pier fishing is another of my favorite ways to do some fishing. Having a number of piers to choose from between Kitty Hawk and Hatteras, there is not a shortage of opportunity to get into some great fishing action. I have found fishing from a pier a great way to drop my line in some deeper water without using a boat.

What you can expect to catch in the surf or from a pier

  • Spot
  • Blue Fish
  • Spanish Mackerel
  • Flounder
  • Pompano
  • Gray Trout
  • Speckled Trout
  • Sea Mullet
  • Croaker
  • King Mackerel
  • Striped Bass
  • Cobia
  • Red Drum
  • Shark
  • Trigger Fish

With such a variety of fish to catch you may be thinking:
  • What's the best fishing tackle to use?
  • What kind of bait or lures should be used?
  • What is the best time of year to catch fish?
As with any kind of fishing there are always those fishing tips that will help you catch more fish. I have found that a few minutes of conversation with someone on a pier can be a great help in finding a couple tips that may be useful.

If you have been considering a day trip to the Gulf Stream for big game fishing, Outer Banks charter fishing has some of the best captains and charter boats to take you offshore fishing for some great sportfishing action.

For some great fishing action, I have found that inshore charter trips are reasonable and offers the opportunity to find a school of fish giving a nice day's catch.

Of all the Outer Banks fishing that I have done, Cape Hatteras has become my favorite fall fishing trip. Some of the largest fish have been caught along the shores of Hatteras. Outer Banks fishing has been known to give many anglers a story of catching that trophy Cobia or Red Drum.

You won't be disappointed fishing at the Outer Banks.
