For the more adventurous, I'd recommend trying at least one of these fun activities:
  • Surfing
  • Parasailing
  • Water Skiing
  • Wave Runners
  • Windsurfing
  • Wreck Diving

If you are looking for a more calm day on the water, you may want take a small sailboat out on the sound side for a great day of sailing.

For exploring the many miles of the sound a little faster, many bring a motor boat for the week and find a quiet spot to relax on a secluded sand bar or small island.

I find exploring the quiet waters around the back side of the islands are best seen from a favorite kayak or canoe. This is a perfect way to get some great pictures of one of the rare wildlife species found here around the calm waters of the wildlife refuge.

Popular Outer Banks Activities:

Beach Combing for seashells is a family favorite for us. It doesn't matter how many times we have come to these barrier islands, we go home with more shells. We always seem to find one different from the last time.

My favorite time to comb the beach for treasures is the early morning with my metal detector. Beach metal detecting is a favorite year round hobby for many treasure seekers coming to find a lost treasure.

As you can see there are plenty of things to do when you come for a family vacation here at the Outer Banks.
